U17 Match Report Roslea v St Mary’s 07/09/22

In round 2 of the U17 league we faced St. Marys, an amalgamation of Maguiresbridge and Brookeborough, at home.

The shamrock boys got off to a quick start with Oisin scoring a fine point in the first minute.  The first 10 minutes of the game saw Roslea dominate with further points from Caolan, Oisin and Tom before Tom bagged a goal after some fine work by the team.

St. Mary’s slowly got into the game and had a period of dominance in the middle third, but the Shamrocks defence stood strong with several turnovers from Conor Woods, Charlie and Niall. St. Marys registered 2 points, before a turnover in our defence by Daniel Murphy led to the ball being moved quickly through the middle.  Matthew found himself inside the D, under pressure he got a shot away, which fortunately dropped under the crossbar.  A point from Rowan was quickly followed by a point from St. Marys before Ciaran netted twice in quick succession with 5 minutes remaining.  A fine save by the St. Marys keeper to deny Caolan a certain goal on the stroke of half time left the score Roslea 4:07, St. Marys 0:03.

The second half started with a point from Caolan in the first minute before St. Marys cut open the Shamrocks defence to bag their only goal of the game. For the next 15 minutes both teams were evenly matched, with several points being scored at both ends. With 10 minutes remaining Caolan found himself in front of goals, having beat his man, to slot the ball into the bottom corner of the net.  St. Marys responded quickly and scored a well worked point from their kickout but this was to be the last score of the game, final score Roslea 5:15, St. Marys 1:08.

Next up for Roslea is a home game v Teemore on Sunday 11th at 12pm.
