U17 Match Report Roslea vs Derrylin 23/10/22

In our final league game we played host to Derrylin on a wet Sunday morning.

Derrylin won the throw in and moved the ball quickly into the forward line only to see their shot drift narrowly wide. The Shamrocks won the kickout and kept possession for a few minutes before Rowan got into a scoring position and duly slotted the ball over the bar.  A goal soon followed with Daniel Reilly turning over possession in the forward line before laying the ball of to Caolan, who gave the keeper no chance, firing the ball into the top corner of the net in the 7th minute.  The visitors replied soon after with a pointed free before Roslea took control of the half, starting with a fine point from distance from Charlie and a point from Ciaran, who was set up by Matthew. The Shamrocks then registered a few wides before Matthew got on the score sheet with a point in the 27th minute, followed by Caolan hitting another 2 points in quick succession, the second after Conor Woods overturned the ball in the middle third.  Another pointed free for Derrylin in injury time left the half time score Roslea 1:06, Derrylin 0:02.

The second half started with the Shamrocks continuing to dominate the game but failing to increase their lead significantly.  A point form Caolan in the 33rd minute led to a number of wides for the home side before Matthew got a goal in the 44th minute, a goal mouth scramble led to the ball falling kindly to Matthew, who duly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.  To their credit Derrylin never gave up and got their reward, scoring 2 points in a minute before a well worked move by Roslea allowed Caolan to race through on goal only to see his shot saved by the Derrylin keeper.  Soon after Padraig got on the score sheet with a point followed by 2 points form Ciaran in quick succession.  Charlie, having worked tirelessly all game, got his reward with a point in the 55th minute, Derrylin scoring points either side of this.  In the last minute of the game Daniel Reilly found himself in spaceand driving at the Derrylin defence, he laid the ball of to Rowan, who slotted the ball over the bar for the final score of the game.  Final score Roslea 2:12, Derrylin 0:06
