U17 Match Report Roslea vs Teemore 9th October 2022

Round 8 of the league saw the boys travel to Teemore on a very wet and windy Sunday morning.

Having already secured a place in the final, Roslea entered the game missing several key players through injury, facing a Teemore side needing a win in their remaining games to secure their place in the final.  As expected the home side started the brighter and registered their first point in the 2nd minute, followed by a sustained spell of pressure from Roslea.  Although playing with the breeze in the first half the boys could not take advantage until the 10thminute. Caolan hit the back of the net from a ‘45, the flight of the ball deceiving everyone in the Teemore defence.  This only spurred the home team on and they took control of the game from there on.  Teemore piled on the pressure and tried for a goal of their own at every chance, but solid defending from Niall, Padraig and Karl, each blocking shots at goal, kept the home side out. With our defence holding strong Teemore opted to chip away at points, firing over in the 13th,14th and 17thminutes before Roslea won a free, which Caolan tapped over in the 19th minute. The last 10 minutes was dominated by the weather, with both sides failing to register a score until the last minute of the half, Teemore hitting the back of the net.  Half time score Roslea 1:01, Teemore 1:04.

The second half started with Teemore using the wind to their advantage, hitting in a long ball to the forward line but a shot at goal was saved by our keeper Ruadhan. The half was dominated by Teemore, and the home side found the back of the net in the 40th minute, after seeing earlier shots narrowly miss the target. Roslea had their chances in the second half but did not take account of the strong breeze, several shots falling short into the keepers hands.  Once again the weather played its part, hampering both teams. A period of 15 minutes ensued where neither team had any real chance of scoring until Teemore fired over a point from close range after cutting open the Roslea defence.  Roslea finally managed a score late on, Daniel Murphy getting a point in the 55th minute after Conor Woods drove through the Teemore defence to set up Daniel.  The last 5 minutes was all one sided, Teemore extending their lead with points in the 56th, 57th and 59th minute before Ruadhan was called upon once again, facing a 1 on 1, Ruadhan stood tall to deny a certain goal. Final score Roslea 1:02, Teemore 2:08.
