U17 Match Report Roslea vs Aghadrumsee 16th October 2022

In round 9 of the league the Shamrocks made the short journey down the road to our neighbours, Aghadrumsee.

Due to a number of injuries the game was played 11 aside and both sides found a lot of space in the early stages.  The magpies had the first chance of the game in the 3rd minute and should have scored a goal only for a fine save from Ruadhan.  Roslea had their own chances early on before Darragh got the first point of the game in 6th minute. This was quickly followed up by another point from Darragh after Conor Woods turned the ball over in our full back line and got the ball moving through the middle with pace. An assist from Darragh led to Caolanregistering a point in the 10th minute and another point by Caolan from a free in the 13th minute had the shamrocks in control of the game.  However the Magpies soon found their rhythm, a point from a free in the 15th minute was quickly followed up with another point, a shot on goal was tipped over the bar by the in form Ruadhan.   Both sides traded points thereafter, before Caolan scored a goal, a turnover by Tom in the forward line and some link up play with Karl, who fed the ball to Caolan and with his man to beat, fired in a low shot to the back of the net. The resulting kickout was won by the Magpies who raced through the Shamrocks defence to get a goal of their own in the 24th minute, which was followed up by another point for the home side from the kickout.  Two more points by the Shamrocks, a free taken by Tom and a fine individual effort from Ciaran left the half time score, Roslea 1:07, Aghadrumsee 1:04.

The second half started with the Magpies in complete control, a point from the throw in was quickly followed by a goal in the 31st minute, and another point in the 33rd minute, before the Shamrocks registered their first score of the second half, a point from Rowan set up by Matthew.  This was little consolation to the Shamrocks as the home side pushed for another goal, a high ball into the square was destined to drop under the crossbar but was tipped over by Ruadhan. Further points for the Magpies in the 36th and 38th minute, followed up by a goal in the 39th minute, left the home side in complete control of the game. The next 10 minutes of the game saw both teams fail to add to the scoreboard before Aghadrumseescored a point from distance.  This was followed up by points from Darragh and Tom which began a period of sustained pressure on the Magpies defence in the closing minutes.  Caolan bagged a second goal in the 58th minute leaving 3 points between the sides.  As Roslea pushed for an equaliser, the home side took advantage of the space in the shamrocks defence, getting another point in the 3rd minute of injury time to secure the win.  Final score Roslea 2:10, Aghadrumsee 3:11.
